Missionary Adventures of Martin and Nancy Foster

Teams involved with over the years.

Martin began his adventures with short term missions in 1995 a year before he came to the Cambridge Vineyard. After his initial trip to Guatemala in 1995 with Missionary Ventures Canada to help build a school for the Mayan Quiche community of Cojxac, the rest of the family started to “catch the infection” and 3 of his children accompanied him on various trips to Guatemala and to Xingu River in Brazil over the next few years.

This photo was taken in ChiChicastenango, Guatemala. Martin was getting his favourite red “Doc Marten’s” shined.

  • 1996 Matagalpa – Nicaragua – scouting – later help set up a feeding centre for 60-80 children. This was the beginning of many exciting developments in Matagalpa including a Re-Nutrition Centre for malnourished children and later a hospital in 2005.
  • 1996 La Perla – Guatemala– medical team
    • medical Team of 10 to remote area of Guatemala to a Mayan church on a Coffee Finca ( plantation) accessibly only by mule, horse or by a small plane with a very daring pilot.

    • my twins Duncan and Rebecca came with me, Becks doing a video documentary of the trip. She now works for World Vision Canada ( 1999 to present ) as a video editor and has traveled to African countries, Asia and to Central America with them.
  • 1997 Hearts for the Children – San Lucas  Guatemala – ministry – team leader. Rebecca came on this one.
  • 1997 Nenton – Guatemala – constructing Christian School.
  • This was the first Missionary Ventures Canada that had a Ministry team of two…(Martin & Lorri). The team in total was over 90 with most being in construction and a medical component that had 4 doctors, a dentist and optometrist and assistants.
The ministry team of two worked with the local church on setting up a prayer room for all the people visiting the clinic. Martin preached for the first time, with less than 5 minutes notice. apparently, as “leader” of the ministry team, they assumed Martin was some kind of pastor.
  • This was a landmark trip in some ways as a number of Cambridge Vineyard members signed up. It included Art Rae ( Senior Pastor) as Ministry team leader, Len & Debbie Runstedler on their first of many trips, their 13 year old daughter Ashley. Amberley Peters came as worship leader and also from the Cambridge Vineyard was Heidi Brannan, Norma Bigden and Agusta Veiera.
Martin Foster ended up leading this combined construction, medical and ministry team. The team ended up totally over 100 people at various times during the 2 weeks. John Verdone, the Executve Director of Missionary Ventures Canada, the original leader, had been taken sick at the last moment.
It was also notable that Hurricane Mitch had just struck the week before and areas of the country were badly hit. However, we only experienced a few delays due to mud slides on our travels.
